When Dagomba tribesmen rebelled against German authority in Togoland, Lieutenant Valentin von Massow was sent with about 100 paramilitary police, who came under massive rebel attack at Adibo (now in modern Ghana). The heavily armed German force inflicted massive losses, then burned the nearby capital, Yendi, and the rebellion was soon crushed.
